The Lou Gehrig's Disease stricken Muniz
|
from the AP
In a press conference today, actor Frankie Muniz shocked the entertainment world by admitting that he has been battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease for the past year. LGD, an extremely debilitating muscle disorder, is rarely diagnosed with young people and is commonly found amongst elderly men. Muniz said he is in the “early stages” of the disease, but plans to “cut back on film and TV work.”
Frankie Muniz is one of my favorite actors and this news caught me by surprise today. It saddens me to think that the world could possibly lose one its preeminent young actors. To honor this great man, I have composed a list of some of his towering film work, but first a moment of silence…Thank-you. Now, on with the list.
My Dog Skip - Muniz’s first caught America’s eye with this comedic gem about a dog and it being named “Skip.” It has an excellent running length – 95 minutes.
Big Fat Liar - Mr. Muniz then moved audiences to the brink of enjoyment with this delightful yarn about an obese lying person who causes comical high jinx to ensue as a direct result of his inadequate truth-telling. It also has an excellent running length – 88 minutes.
Malcolm in the Middle - After conquering movies, Frankie decided to make television his bitch. For several years, he played Malcolm, a troubled youngster prone to getting in the middle of various situations in a humorous and/or lighthearted manner. Its running length is 30 minutes, arguably the best of anything he’s done.
Agent Cody Banks - Never saw it.
Agent Cody Banks 2 - In perhaps his final film role, the Frankster plays Cody Banks, an agent who reluctantly returns to do something…again for the second time. The sequel easily outshines the original with bigger things, a longer title, and a shorter running length – by two minutes!
Franklin Delano Muniz, you have meant something so meaningful to me and I shant forget you and/or your meaning. I wish you the best of luck in beating Lou Gehrig’s Disease!
