With the revelation that the most powerful and well respected wizard in the magic community is a homosexual, I feel it is finely time we put down our wands of hatred and re-instate our wands of love and acceptance. J.K. Rowling (known as Jerk Rowling in anti-magic circles) gave the entire crowd at Carnegie hall a giant wet reach around when she answered a young boy’s question, not with witticism or mystery with which she is known, but with the shocking call that Albus Dumbledore was super gay, and proud of it.
Many questions will no doubt rise both in the Wizarding world (dorkdom) and the Muggle world (reality). “How gay was he?” “Was he experiencing sexual frustration when his wand would go off unexpectantely or not at all?” What did he do with Harry alone in his office all the time?” “How in God’s purist hell did he get to be a school master?” “Did he really hate Voldermort, or was he suppressing a quiet obsession with the dark wizard, both of them never being able to release their true feelings?” “Did he ever try ‘Nixus Faggotorium’ the notorious gay reversing spell?”
Talk about a lack of freedom. If even the wizard and witch community can’t be open with their gays then what hope is there for us as a Muggle community. We don’t even have magic and everyone still knows who throats the barrel. I, however, think this is a wonderful opportunity to not only let the homo readers of Harry Potter have their moment in the sun but also for us as a people to open up and stop hatin so much on the gays. People are fat, people are dumb, people are black, people are rich, and people are Mexican! With the exception of the last one, all of these things are acceptable and shouldn’t be discriminated against. But we as a nation still spend so much of our time hating, no wonder we are not making as much money as our parents or feel more “butt crunched” as the price of gas rises and falls. It is finally something we can relate to with a homosexual, they are getting crunched in the real world just like us…and in the bed room, but who cares, I dress up like a platypus before I get on the love bus, and no one messes with me. (Literally, I don’t even have a partner for these experiments.)
I applaud Albus and the J.K. for coming out and being honest with us. Not ashamed of who they are and where they came from. It is my hope that we can learn from a situation like this, Dumbledore was one of the smartest well respected characters in the Potter series and this shouldn’t take anything away from that. Even though people will look at the book content differently now and lines like “Hold your wand very tight Harry; wield it strong and without fear” really won’t ever mean the same thing again. We can all still take solice that the advice he gave can resonate through all our lives, homo and un-homo alike.
Besides, we should have seen his gayness a mile away, he is English.
